About Lairage
Finding an abattoir that will take a few of your own animals shouldn't take a morning on the phone. This site lists every approved abattoir and wild-game handler in England and Wales in one place, with what each one takes.
Why the name? A lairage is the set of pens where animals rest when they arrive at an abattoir. It's where every private kill starts.
Where the listings come from
Every listing starts from the Food Standards Agency's public list of approved premises, dated 1 October 2026. It covers 233 slaughterhouses and game handling establishments. That list tells us which animals each one is approved for, but not whether it does private kill, when it kills, or how to book.
We then check each business against public sources, such as its own website and the Soil Association's list of organic abattoirs, and show the date and sources on each listing. So far we've checked 39 of them, starting in the South West. Where we haven't confirmed private kill, the listing says so.
Locations come from postcodes.io, which uses Office for National Statistics and Ordnance Survey open data. Where the FSA withholds an address, we show only the council area.
What isn't here yet
Scotland and Northern Ireland, butchers who cut but don't slaughter, and on-farm poultry slaughter. If you know a butcher who cuts private carcases, tell us.
For abattoirs and butchers
Listings are free. You can claim your listing to add kill days, prices and how to book, correct anything that's wrong, or ask us to remove it.

When you search, your postcode goes from your browser to postcodes.io to find its location. We don't store it, and the site doesn't use tracking cookies. Your last search is remembered on your own device only.
