Abattoirs that take cattle

Approved abattoirs that slaughter cattle, for beef from your own animals. Each animal travels with its passport. Ask how long they hang beef, and whether they cut it themselves or you need a separate butcher.

127 approved premises take cattle, and 9 have confirmed private kill. To sort them by distance from you, use the postcode search.

Questions

How many abattoirs take cattle in England and Wales?

127 approved premises take cattle, according to the Food Standards Agency's list of 1 October 2026. 9 have confirmed private kill with us so far.

Which parts of the country have the most abattoirs for cattle?

Most are in the South West (26), the West Midlands (20) and the North West (18).

What do I need to take cattle to the abattoir?

Each animal needs its cattle passport and food chain information, and the move has to be reported. Make sure any medicine withdrawal periods have passed, and check whether TB restrictions on your holding affect the move.
